Adapting Process B for Smaller Institutions

Published on: August 26, 2025

An ATIXA Tip of the Week by Kimberly Pacelli, J.D., M.Ed.

ATIXA’s Process B is a streamlined and user-friendly resolution process for sexual harassment complaints that are not subject to Title IX regulations (including those that might have been dismissed), as well as complaints of disparate treatment or discrimination based on sex, race, age, disability, or other protected characteristics. Despite the versatility of Process B, smaller institutions often struggle to implement it because of limited budgets and resources. Process B is a best practices model, incorporating robust due process protections while also being user-friendly and non-adversarial, as compared to the federally prescribed Process A (in alignment with § 106.45 of the Title IX regulations).

ATIXA recently explored this topic during a members-only Time with IX event. Below, we’ve summarized key takeaways and practical strategies from the discussion to guide your work.
