Alma Figueroa has a diverse background working in the non-profit sector and public education in the state of Indiana. Most recently, she began as the Case Manager for a new program supporting pregnant and parenting students with Indianapolis Public Schools (IPS) called Stronger Tomorrows. As the pioneer for this program and through the Title IX Office of IPS, Alma helped the program by cultivating relationships with community partners while managing a caseload of student referrals. Alma’s previous position with IPS helped bridge the communication to facilitate implementing necessary processes within the schools. In her role as the IPS ENL College and Career Readiness Coordinator she worked with and led efforts for English learners in the district. These efforts resulted in supporting a graduation rate increase in the district for English learners from 82% in 2018 to 94% in 2023. Alma is passionate about public education and helping students secure a higher quality of life by obtaining their high school diploma and having post-secondary plans. A proud IPS graduate herself, Alma is employed in the very district she grew up in. She holds a bachelor’s degree from Indiana University-Bloomington and today is a bilingual professional known for working with vulnerable populations in the district.
